Abstract

233,484. Wort, W. E. March 14, 1924. Light - subduing screens for drivers.-In a device for protecting the eves of vehicle drivers from the glare of approaching headlights, a sheet of metal gauze of fine mesh formed either of fine wire or flat metal strips is adapted to be mounted, preferably adjustably, on the windscreen, windscreen stiandard, or similar support. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the metallic, screen C is mounted in a frame D having extension arms D<1>, D<2> which are pivotally supported in clamps E adjustable on the standard B. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 4<a>, tie frame of the metallic screen has vertical extensions F provided with series of key-hole slits F<1> by which the screen may be supported at various heights on corresponding series of studs F<2> formed on hook members F<4> engaging over the top of the windscreen. Instead of being adjustable, the metallic screen may be cemented to the face of the windscreen or fixed between two sheets of glass forming the windscreen. In the case of a van or lorry having no windscreen, the anti-dazzle screen may be supported by hooks adjustable laterally on a transverse bar carried by the hood. The screen may also be formed of two superposed similar sheets of gauze or of interengaging flat metal strips and several methods of attaching the gauze screen to its frame are described.
