Abstract

Inhalers.-In apparatus for administering anaesthetics, the conduit through which the anaesthetic flows to the mouthpiece or mask is provided with a chamber or enlargement containing, for the purpose of odorizing the anaesthetic, a layer or layers of porous material saturated with odoriferous substances and so arranged that the flow of the anaesthetic is not obstructed. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the conduit a, e along which the anaesthetic flows to the mouthpiece or mask has an enlargement b in which is arranged a disc c carrying odoriferous substances. In a modified construction, as shown ir. Fig. 3, the conduit r, s is enlarged at q to contain an inner tube t of porous material carrying the odorizing substance, and the anaesthetic is free to flow both through the tube t and along the annular space u between the tubes t, q. Alternatively the tube t may be of such dimensions as to fit closely within the tube q. In a further modification, as shown in Fig. 4, the conduit f, g has an enlargement h and the perfume-carriers i are disposed around a perforated tube k. The anaesthetic may be mixed, if desired, with oxvgen or air either before or after contact with the odorifeous substances.
