Abstract
488,250. Anµsthetic apparatus. AGOSTINO, F. D'. Dec. 9, 1937, No. 34171. Convention date, Dec. 12, 1936. [Class 81 (ii)] An apparatus for ether anµsthesia in which a mixture of ether vapour, fresh air and CO2 is delivered, has a water bath for vaporizing the ether and heating the mixture to be administered. The patient exhales into the mask 16 and the expired air opens a valve 17 and inflates a bladder 14. When the patient inhales, the valve 17 closes and a valve 171 opens. The bladder 14 releases its contents which pass into the tube 12 where fresh air is admitted through a valve 13 when the pressure in the apparatus falls below that of the atmosphere. The mixture passes through pipes 10 to the receiver 4 containing cotton wool impregnated with ether from a drip cock 19. The receiver is divided in two by a diaphragm 5 which causes the gaseous mixture to pass down one side through a gauze net 6 and up the other side through further impregnated cotton wool, thence through another set of pipes 101 and into the mask. The two sets of pipes and the receiver 4 are immersed in a water bath 1 heated by an electric resistance 2 or its equivalent. This serves to vaporize the ether and to warm the mixture of gases. A continuation 7 of the chamber 4 extends below the water bath and beneath the surface of the water in a container 8. Holes 9 allow water to enter which is vaporized by heat conducted from above.
