Abstract
232,214. Ruef, H. April 8, 1924, [Convention date]. Rotary batch-mixers.-A mixing-machine of the kind in which a wagon containing the ingredients is wheeled into the machine and rotates with it during mixing, forming part of the mixing chamber, comprises a circular body rotating on its axis and provided with a part forming with the wagon body the mixing chamber, the centre of gravity of the rotating system being approximately coincident with the axis. In the form shown, the wagon 14 is wheeled longitudinally into a drum 1 formed with flanges 2 resting on rollers 7 by means of which rotation is effected. The wagon rests on rails 13 and the mixing chamber comprises the wagon body 15 and a trough or chamber 4 provided with fixed deflecting blades 26 and a rake 27. The wagon is held in position during mixing by means of catches 25 mounted on levers 22 operated by links 18 and levers 17 from a hand-actuated shaft 16 passing through the trough 4. The trough is provided with enlargements 28 to deflect the material over the gaps between the body 15 and trough 4. In a modification, the wagon is moved transversely into an open rotary frame, the trough 4 being movable radially into engagement with the body by means of hand-operated racks. In a further modification, the drum is transportable, being mounted in a wheeled frame and rotated from the wheels. A three-armed mixing device may be provided which is mounted in a shaft driven by gearing from the fixed central shaft of the drum, and the trough 4 may have one of its sides partially cut away to provide a discharge opening operating only when the drum is rotated in one direction.
