345,638. Mixing-machines. DAVIES, J. A., Elmsfield, Aughton, near Ormskirk, Lancashire, and BUCHANAN & SON (LIVERPOOL), Ltd., J., Caledonia Foundry & Engine Works, Liverpool. Dec. 19, 1929, Nos. 38914/29 and 26979/30. [Class 86.] A mixing-machine comprises stirrers mounted eccentrically in a pan which rotates. in the opposite direction to the stirrers and at a slower speed ; the pan is charged by a tipping bucket riding on inclined rails and feeding the material into that part of the pan unoccupied by stirrers, and the pan is discharged through a central orifice closed by a door which rotates with the pan and is removed by being moved first downwards and then sideways by means of a hand-lever on which it is carried. The pan comprises a casting 10 with wrought-iron sides 1x, and is mounted on rollers 18 carried on a main frame 2. The stirrers are carried on a spider 4 and consist of two plows 3 and a roller; the spider is carried on a shaft 6 mounted in an arm 7 and rotated from a shaft 25 which drives the pan and is operated by bevel gear from a motordriven shaft 26. Stationary blades are provided which scrape the side and bottom of the pan. The discharge door 9 is mounted on a shaft 16 carried on a lever 12 the other end of which rides in a right-angled slot and is held in the closed position of the door by a pivoted catch. The pan is provided with a serrated flange 49 in which crosspieces 48 on the door engage to effect rotation of the door with the pan. The charging means consists of a strip 32 riding up rails 33 the hoisting gear comprising a clutch and brake 51 which is operated by a hand-]ever 61 engaged by a catch 58 ; the catch 58 is actuated to throw the clutch out at the top of the lifting aperature by the engagement of the strip with a lever 36.
