Abstract

A garment 1, for example a sports jacket, comprises a two portions 4, 5 which enclose padding material 3. The two portions are joined, at least at their ends by sewing or other means. The first portion 4 is external and at least partially transparent, and the second portion 5 is a lining worn adjacent to the user. The padding is coloured, and due to the transparency of the external portion, provides at least partial colouring to at least the exterior of the garment.

Description

1 A GARMENT 2321386 This invention relates to a garment, and in one
embodiment to a sports garment.
It is known that a garment, for example a sports garment, or a wind jacket, a casual jacket with or without sleeves, trousers, gloves or the like, usually comprises a covering which contains padding. The covering comprises at least two portions joined together at their ends by sewing or the like. A first of these portions defines an outer portion or face of the garment, the other portion being in contact with the user. The outer portion is usually impermeable.
In accordance with the invention, there is provided a garment, for example a sports garment, comprising a covering which contains padding, said covering comprising two portions joined together at least at their ends by sewing or other joining means, a first portion being external and a second portion being adjacent to the user, wherein the padding is provided with its own colour which provides at least partial colouring to at least the outer part of the garment, that portion of the covering defining this outer part being at least partly transparent.
Advantageously, the present invention provides a garment which can be formed of different colours in a very simple manner and at very low production cost.
Furthermore, the garment can have a plurality of colours located in any manner along it, the whole garment being obtainable at low production cost.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a garment according to the invention; and Figure 2 is a section through the garment of Figure 1.
Said figures show a garment in the form of a sleeveless padded jacket 1 provided with a zip fastener 10. The jacket comprises a covering 2 internally containing padding 3 (for example of natural type such as goose down, or of synthetic type). The covering is defined by a first portion 4 located on the outside of the jacket 1, and an inner second portion 5. These portions are joined together at their ends in known manner (for example by sewing, etc.) and can also comprise surface stitching on other parts of the garment.
2 The first portion 4 is preferably impermeable and is transparent. For example it can be a known undyed, impurity-freed and bleached gauze of plastic material, such as polyester joined to nylon TI. A transparent rubber coating, for example, is applied to this gauze by known methods, so making it impermeable.
The second portion 5 is preferably based on natural components (such as cotton), it being in direct contact with the user.
The padding 3 is provided with its own colouring. As the portion 4 of the garment is transparent, the colouring of the padding provides colour to the garment itself. Consequently similar garments formed with identical coverings 2 can be of different colours depending on the colour of their padding. This allows considerable standardization of production processes for such garments, it reduces their production cost and enables marketed garments to be very easily differentiated. The invention is also advantageous from this commercial viewpoint in that it allows adaptation to changes in purchasers' requirements, such changes occurring very frequently in the fashion world.
Advantageously, to make the garment colouring more apparent, one of the portions 4 or 5 of the covering 2 can be joined to a layer (which may be of fabric or plastic) of the same colour as the padding 3.
The invention achieves an aesthetic effect which depends on the characteristics of the padding. This padding could also be of different colours so as to give the garment a particular aesthetic effect which it would be difficult to achieve at acceptable cost with similar known garments.
One embodiment of the invention has been described. Modifications are however possible in the light of the aforegoing description and are to be considered as included within the scope of the invention.
For example, whilst the embodiment described herein relates to a jacket, it will be noted that the teachings of the invention may be applied to any other type of garment, such as wind jackets, casual jackets (with or without sleeves), trousers, gloves and the like.
