Abstract
231,722. Gill, H. A., (Maschinenfabrik Sack Ges.). July 21, 1924. Shearing.-The cutters of a shearing-machine are interconnected by a bell-crank so that one cutter first moves into contact with the work after which the other cutter operates to shear. The cutter slide c, Fig. 1, is linked at d to a bellcrank e which is pivoted in the upper cutter-slide b at f. The free end of the bell-crank is driven at g by an eccentric &c. rod h or by the piston rod of a hydraulic cylinder. On movement of the eccentric &c. rod in the direction of the arrow, the lower cutter-slide, in virtue of its superior weight remains stationary till the upper slide descends on to the work, after which the pivot f remains stationary while the lower cutter rises to shear. The bell-crank may be pivoted in the lower cutter-slide. A holding-down shoe u, Fig. 5 is counterbalanced and is linked at r to the bell-crank e so that the work m may be clamped on the lower cutter when the latter ascends to perform the shearing operation. The holding- down rod may be adjustable in length. A gauging stop y for the work may be fitted.
