Abstract

A vehicle security device comprises a box with a hinged lid and two cut outs into which the brake and clutch pedals are placed. When the lid is closed and locked the pedals cannot be moved, preventing the vehicle from being driven and preventing theft of the vehicle. A moulded inner liner pre-formed to the shape of the pedals may be included in the box to limit movement of the pedals.

Description

VEHICLE SECURITY DEVICE The invention relates to a vehicle security device which in fact is a non-mechanical immobilizer.

Security devices for motor vehicles come in many forms, some offer security by clamping the steering wheel to the clutch pedal, some attach to the steering wheel direct, whilst some actually clamp around the road wheels. The invention in question uses a totally new concept.

The new invention will actually immobilize any motor vehicle being it a car, van, lorry or coach or any piece of plant or agricultural equipment be it driven by petrol or diesel or even gas, as long as it is manually operated and not automatic.

The basic feature of the invention is to restrict the movement of the vehicle being protected, and this is achieved by totally restricting the movement of both the clutch and brake pedals inside itself, by doing so the movement of any vehicle is impossible.

The device is self locking and can only be removed by key operation.

The device is so constructed that both the clutch pedal and brake pedal are secured inside a secure box which can be made of stainless steel or any material which can meet the same secure standards the device requires. Once the pedals are placed inside the box and the lid is slammed shut the vehicle is immobilized. For not having the ability to operate either pedal one cannot effectively move the vehicle.

The basic details of the device will now be described by using the accompanying drawings as a reference.

With reference to the drawings: The device can be constructed in either stainless steel or any other suitable material folded and welded to shape with a built in full length hinge on the inside edge. The box is lined out with a pre-formed shape to limit movement of the pedals. The locking device is mounted on the underside of the lid and is of the slam shut type.

The lock is welded in place.

1. A vehicle security device which centres around a lidded box which is hinged and has two cut outs, into which the brake and clutch pedals of the vehicle to be protected fit.

   The box contains a moulded inner liner which is shaped to hold the vehicles control pedals with little or no movement, each vehicle will have a moulded liner specifically designed to suit, i.e. Escort, Sierra, BMW 318, each vehicle being different.

   Once the pedals are located inside the box the lid is closed by use of a slam shut locking mechanism which can only be opened by the use of an individual key.

   The uniqueness of the device is the simple fact that once the box is fitted to any vehicle, one is unable to use either the clutch or the brake pedal as they are sealed securely inside the unit and no movement whatsoever is possible.
