COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT Invention Title: GEAR~ LEVER LOCK *X-The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best rh~fethod of performing it known to me:- 2 GEAR LEVER LOCK This invention relates to prevention of movement of a gear lever and maintaining a gear lever in a locked position, being suitable for motor vehicles, trucks, earthmoving equipment or machinery which nas a gear lever.
With theft of say motor vehicles, being on the increase and rising costs of insurance premiums, we must be influenced to protect our property from theft and keeping the gear lever in a locked position from children) by a simply locking system whilst being reliable.
There have been many proposals in preventing theft of motor vehicles but these have not successfully decreased our rate.
For example, with respect to the steering wheel lock (crooklock) but finding a suitable spot to store the device can be 15 a problem with its bulkiness. I r

3 These problems are overcome by the present invention which provides a gear lever lock permanently fixed in front of a gear lever. Comprising a baseplate with holes for fixing to a floor from which projects a rod with a looped end portion for receiving a padlock, fixed in front of a gear lever using metal pop rivets and placed as close as possible to a gear lever, the arrangement is such so that by locking a padlock around the gear lever and through the looped end portion the 0°°10. lever is fixed in a permanent position until unlocked.
Y The device can be fitted to any vehicle or machinery oo •which has a gear lever.

15.
In one assessment of the invention the gear lever lock comprises, a baseplate with holes for fixing to a floor from which projects a rod with a looped end portion, fixed in front of a gear lever and as close as possible to a gear lever. By fitting a padlock around the gear lever and through the looped end portion of the rod the gear lever is maintained in a locked position.
B
Y i Ir 4 In another form of the invention the gear lever locking device may comprise a lug, fixed to a baseplate with holes and fixed to a floor in front of a gear lever, allowing for a padlock to be fitted through the lug and around a gear lever to maintain the gear lever in a fixed position.
The baseplate, rod and looped end portion may be made of a ferrous or non ferrous metal. The length is determined, then the device is ready for fitting to its application, to a floor in front of a gear lever.
To assist with understanding the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings which show one example of the invention.
In the drawings: FIG. 1 shows one example of a gear lever lock according to 15 this invention; FIG. 2 shows the application of such a gear lever lock fitted in front of a gear lever complete with padlock.
Referring to FIG. 1 it can be seen that a gear lever lock according to this invention comprises. A baseplate with holes 1 for fixing to a floor 4 from which projects a rod 2 with a looped end portion 3 for receiving a padlock. The length 7 is determined and by welding at 5 6 the locking device is one piece.

FIG. 2 shows a gear lever lock in operation. It can be seen that a gear lever 8 has a gear lever lock fixed to a floor 4 as close as possible in front of a gear lever 8. A padlock 9 is then placed around the gear lever 8 and through the looped end portion 3 of the rod 2 and locked in position the gear lever 8 is fixed in a locked position until unlocked, forming the locking device.
By the use of one gear lever locking device of this type, the gear lever can be held firmly in a locked position preventing movement whilst having a simple and quick locking system.
It will be realised that the gear lever locking device according to this invention is not restricted to'the form of finding somewhere to store the device as shown in the example, as the gear lever lock is a permanent fixture to the 15 floor and only a padlock is required for locking and unlocking.
