Abstract

Bags, portmanteaux, or the like, with legs.- A hand-bag, portmanteau, basket, or similar article is provided with extensible legs or supports operated by means situated adjacent to the carrying handle. Fig. 2 shows, in section, one construction of the device, the left-hand portion showing a support in the retracted position, as housed within the bag &c., and the remaining portion showing the position of extension. Legs 6, formed with lateral openings 7, are slidably housed within sheaths 5 positioned at the ends of the bag &.c. Normally the legs, which terminate in spring-controlled castors 13, are locked in the retracted position by the action of detents 10 mounted on arms 8 pivoted to the housings 5. If, however, the detents are withdrawn, for example by an upward pull on a chain 17 connecting the upper ends of the arms 8, the legs slide downwardly and on release of the chain can be. locked in the required extended position. In place of the chain 17, sliding bars 18, Fig. 5, connected by links to a hand-grip 20, may be employed.
