Abstract

231,271. Hainsworth, H. Jan. 29, 1924. Letter-boxes. - A letter-box of the kind adapted to be fixed to the interior of a door, gate or wall or other part of a house or building, in which there is a slit covered by a swinging door and an internal shoot inclined towards the rear of the box and having flaps or serrations on its inner edge is provided with a projection 23, Figs. 1 and 3, around the exit opening to protect the hinged door and with hinged flaps 38, 34 controlled by stops 35, 39. Lugs 59 are provided as a safeguard in case the hinges are tampered with. The door is further protected by a system of levers 48, 49, Fig. 1, operated by the bolt 47 of a lock 46 to further secure the door. In the modification shown in Fig. 5 the part 53 of the lever is weighted in order that the link 48 may be dispensed with; and in a further modification the link is replaced by an arrangement of bell-crank levers.
