Abstract

Compositions useful as a foundation cream contain ghee, water and sandalwood or rose oils. Application of the composition can alleviate eczema, sun burned skin, neurodermatitis or protects the skin from the effects of chemical agents.

Description

COSMETIC COMPOSITIONS This invention relates to cosmetic compositions and more particularly is concerned with foundation creams which are free of lanolin.
This patent application is divided out of Patent Application No. GB 9620657.8 (GB 2304050A) which in turn is divided out of Patent Application No. 9224754.3 (GB 2274058A).
According to the present invention, there is provided a cosmetic composition comprising (a) ghee, (b) water, and (c) sandalwood oil or rose oil. The composition may also contain further ingredients, e.g.
in order to give: Anti-histaminic effects Anti-inflammatory effects Adrenocortical stimulation Cortisol preservation Keratolytic activity Control of excessive drying action Control of excessive secretory functions Anti-infective activity Anti-fungal activity.
The specific herbs and herbal extracts described in GB 2274058A may be incorporated into the cosmetic compositions of this invention as desired.
Herbal creams of this invention may be used for biodynamic massage and prove to be effective in cortisol preservation.
By hydrolysis of Ghee with many decoctions, many triglyceride pockets are formed in the resultant composition. This permits many ingredients to be incorporated in the cream while maintaining their separate activity in the cream; that means each can impart its own effects without opposition from other co-ingredients.
The cream itself may also act as a vehicle for providing Vitamin A, Vitamin D and vitamin C; all of these are important for the protection of the various layers of the skin.
The invention will be illustrated by the following Example: EXAMPLE A foundation cream in accordance with this invention was formulated as follows: Ghee 3Kg Water (boiled and cooled) 2 litres Decoction of leaves (200g) of Jasminum prandiflorum 1 litre Sandalwood powder 10g Sandalwood oil 30 ml or Rose oil 30 ml The ghee is first hydrolysed by heating it with the water, then cooled, and then is subjected to a second hydrolysis using the decoction of leaves of Jasminum prandiflorum. When complete trituration is achieved, which may take 6-7 hours, the proposed amount of Sandalwood oil or Rose oil is incorporated with proper mixing and trituration is once again carried out. Finally, the sandalwood powder is mixed in with the other components of the cream.
This foundation cream is meant for the protection of the skin from deleterious effects of physical and chemical agents. (Black people as well as many ladies, use lightening agents for their make-up; sometimes their skin becomes excessively damaged). The cosmetic composition of this invention may be used as a cosmetic alone or as a foundation cream. This cream is also beneficial for infantile eczema, skin care for diabetic patients, and for skin burnt due to excessive suntanning. For nappy rash in children it can be mixed with Castor oil and Zinc ointment.
The compositions of this invention can be used for the care of elderly people. The creams are very soothing for post herpetic dermatitis and are expected to be beneficial for any sort of neurodermatitis.
Caution: although the cream is made from Ghee yet it should not be taken by mouth; and it should be kept out of the reach of children.

Claims (3)

CLAIMS:
1. A cosmetic composition which comprises (a) ghee, (b) water, and (c) sandalwood oil or rose oil.
2. A cosmetic composition as claimed in claim 1, which further comprises ingredients which serve to provide one or more of the following effects: antihistaminic effects; anti-inflammatory effects; adrenocortical stimulation; cortisol preservation; keratolytic activity; control of excessive drying action; control of excessive secretory functions; antiinfective activity; and anti-fungal activity.
3. A cosmetic composition substantially as hereinbefore described.
