Description
Hollow concrete block for building walls and wall built with such concrete blocks.
The invention concerns a hollow concrete block for building walls. The block is provided with at least one cavity which extends over at least a part of the height.
The concrete block can be made of various sorts of concrete, among others of ordinary concrete or lightweight concrete such as concrete on the basis of burnt clay granules.
Depending on their size, such concrete blocks have one, two or three cavities which, when the concrete blocks have been laid, show a vertical, continuous cavity.
Very often, pipes, in particular electric wires such as cables or pipes containing wires, need to be worked in the wall. These pipes usually have a vertical course.
To this end, a groove must be made in the wall, which is quite difficult and time-consuming with a wall built with the known concrete blocks which have no other openings than the central cavities.
As the groove is cut, a part of the wall can come apart from the concrete block, such that the groove penetrates in a cavity, as a result of which the wall is seriously weakened and which results in a groove which is far too deep.
The invention aims to produce and commercialize a concrete block for building walls which makes it possible to provide grooves for placing pipes and such in a quick manner without having to face the above-mentioned difficulties.
This aim is reached according to the invention in that the concrete block has at least one slot between the central cavity and at least one of its stretchers, i.e.
the longest standing outer sides, which extends over the entire height of the concrete block.
The concrete blocks are laid such that the slots are situated on top of one another. In order to form a groove, part of the concrete blocks can be easily removed on the outside of the slots, whereby the slots in the concrete blocks form the bottom of the groove.
In order to make it possible to work in pipes easily on either side of inner walls, the concrete block each time has at least one slot between the central cavity and both stretchers.
Also on one or both crosscut ends, the concrete block may have a slot between the cavity and a header, i.e. a transverse standing outside.
In order to build a half brick wall, apart from the concrete blocks with the normal length, also concrete blocks of half a length can be used, i.e. forming a "half bat".
The concrete block of half a length preferably has only one single slot between the central cavity and at least one of the stretchers.
The full-length concrete block preferably has at least two slots between the central cavity and at least one of its stretchers.
These two slots are situated such that slots of concrete blocks situated on top of one another and laid in stretcher bond are also situated at least partly on top of one another.
The invention also concerns a wall built with concrete blocks according to any of the preceding embodiments.
In order to better explain the characteristics of the invention, the following preferred embodiment of a hollow concrete block for building walls and of a wall built with such concrete blocks according to the invention, is given as an example only without being limitative in any way, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
figure 1 shows a front view of a wall built with
concrete blocks according to the invention,
figure 2 shows a section according to line II-II in
figure 1;
figure 3 shows a section according to line III-III
in figure 1;
figure 4 shows a front view of the wall in figure 1,
but after a groove has been provided with a pipe in
it;
figure 5 shows a section according to line V-V in
figure 4.
A wall is shown in the figures which was built with concrete blocks 1 and 2 in stretcher bond, which implies that the concrete blocks 1 of the layers situated on top of one another are alternately shifted over half the length of a concrete block 1.
Consequently, a "half bat" 2 is situated at the end of every two layers, with half the length of a normal concrete block 1.
In order to avoid that the mason has to split concrete blocks 1 in two, the wall contains two types of concrete blocks, namely concrete blocks 1 of a normal length and concrete blocks 2 of half of the above-mentioned length.
The concrete blocks 1 can be made in various sizes, varying from 39x19x19 to 29x14x9 cm. These concrete blocks 1 are provided with central cavities 3 whose dimensions and number depend on the size of the concrete blocks.
The concrete blocks 1 represented in the figures are for example of the size 39x19x14 cm and have three central cavities 3.
These cavities have a square, for example rectangular section and follow the vertical height of the concrete block 1.
The cavities 3 can be closed at the top side and at the bottom side in order to prevent mortar from penetrating during the bricklaying. The cavities 3 can be open on one of these sides in order to make it possible for the mason to easily grasp the concrete block. They can also be open on both sides.
Between the cavities 3 and each of the stretchers 4 of the concrete block remains a wall of about 4 centimetres thick.
In this wall is provided a slot 5 between each cavity 3 and a stretcher 4 which extends over the entire height of the concrete block.
Along every stretcher 4 are thus situated three slots 5.
In the longitudinal direction of the concrete block 1, the slots 5 have practically the same length as the cavities 3. The width of the slots 5 in the cross direction of the concrete block 1 is about 1.0 cm, and on the outside thereof is left some 1.5 cm of concrete.
Also between the two farthest cavities 3 and the headers 6 of the concrete block 1 is provided such a slot 7, but somewhat less long, which extends over the entire height of the concrete block 1.
The concrete block 2 is formed in an analogous manner, but since it has a shorter length, it has only two cavities 3 which moreover are smaller.
This concrete block 2 has only one single slot 9 along its stretchers 8 instead of three slots, but this slot 9 overlaps the two cavities 3 and thus is somewhat longer than the above-mentioned slots 5.
When concrete blocks 1 and 2 are laid in stretcher bond on top of one another, along each side of the formed wall, the two farthest slots 5 of the concrete blocks 1 are predominantly situated above or under two slots 5 of concrete blocks 1 placed underneath or above them, such that continuous slots are formed in the wall from bottom to top as represented in figure 4 by means of a dashed line.
Also the slots 9 of the concrete blocks 2 are situated in the wall almost entirely above or under a slot 5 of concrete blocks 1, such that also near the end of the wall is formed a continuous vertical slot, which is also represented in figure 4 by means of a dashed line.
In order to work in for example an electric wire 10, a groove 11 can be formed at the height of such a slot by cutting out concrete from the stretchers 4 as represented in figures 4 and 5.
If required, such a groove 11 can also be formed on the crosscut end of the wall, since the slots 7 of the concrete blocks 1 and 2 placed on top of one another are situated on top of one another at this end.
Thanks to the presence of the slots 5, 7 and 9, vertical grooves 11 can be very easily formed in the wall by cutting out concrete, whereby the slots 5, 7 and 9 form the bottom of these grooves and thus determine the depth thereof.
The present invention is by no means limited to the above-described embodiments represented in the accompanying drawings; on the contrary, such concrete blocks and walls can be made in all sorts of variants while still remaining within the scope of the invention.
In particular, the number of slots in the concrete blocks 1 and 2 must not necessarily be equal to the number represented in the figures.
Between the cavities 3 and the standing stretchers 4 can be provided only one or two slots 5 instead of three in the concrete blocks 1.
The number of slots 5 need not be equal to the number of cavities.
The concrete blocks 1 and 2 need not necessarily have slots 7 at their crosscut ends. They need not even have slots 5 on either side of the cavities 3, i.e. along both standing stretchers 4, but in this case the mason must make sure that the slots 5 or 9 are situated on the same side in the wall.
