Abstract
Apparatus for mixing, separating, purifying, drying, or removing suspended particles from fluids comprises a vessel divided by a thin grid or grids and traversed by the fluids, the grids having perforations of equal area, for example narrow slots, the smallest widths of the perforations being not greater than the distance, measured in the same direction between the perforations so that an eddy is produced behind each perforation. The sieves may be electrically charged. A grid may be made by punching holes in sheet metal, or flattening a web formed of wire gauze between rollers.. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 3809/06, [Class 55, Gas manufacture].
