Abstract

746,324. Electrostatic precipitation. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. March 29, 1954 [April 1, 1953], No. 9098/54. Class 39 (1). A two-stage electrostatic precipitator comprises a transverse electrode of fibrous sheet material shaped to provide a zig-zag outline with straight sections 25 co-operating with ionizing wires 18 to form the ionizing stage, and intermediate perforated V-shaped sections 23 co-operating with non-discharging rods 20 to form the collecting stage. The wires 18 and rods 20 are supported by rods 17 forming part of a rigid framework. The zig-zag electrode is supported by rods 21 at the apices of the V-shaped sections and by clips 22 on the sides of the casing 10. The zig-zag electrode may consist of cardboard or thick paper with a surface rendered conductive by a coating of conductive ink or by a metal foil. The surfaces may also be coated with a fire-proofing compound which may be an adhesive.
