Abstract

229,600. Powley & Sons, Ltd., R., and Powley, M. Oct. 6, 1924. Bottles, washing. - In machines wherein the bottles, jars.&c. are fed by hand to rotary internal and external brushes, and in which roller members bear on the bottles to press them on to the external brushes, means are provided for periodically raising the rollers and internal brushes to facilitate feeding and removal of the bottles. The external brushes a are mounted on shafts c in a tank b and rotated bv chain gearing contained in a gear-box d. Between each pair of external brushes is arranged an internal brush f on a spindle i rotatable in a sleeve j pivoted to a fixed bracket k. Each spindle i is connected by a universal joint m to a driven shaft n in the gear-box d. The pressing rollers g are mounted on levers h pivoted at o<1> and periodically raised by cams q acting on rollers h<2> carried at the ends of the levers. A slotted link p pivoted to each sleeve j engages with a pin h<1> on each lever h so that these levers when near the end of their rising movement lift the internal brushes to the position x shown in the broken lines. The cams q are driven from the driving shaft by worm gearing wand in a machine for dealing with four bottles at a time the cams are so arranged that while one pair of bottles are being brushed the other pair are in the raised position.
