Abstract
363,499. Bottle - cleaning machines. MEYER, H., 24, Ambergerstrasse, and SIMON, J. J., 12, Unterer Markt, both in Neumarkt, Oberpfalz, Germany. Dec. 8, 1930, No. 36938. [Class 138 (i).] Bottles 13, Fig. 1, are placed inverted in holders 10 on a rotating table a while continually rotating brushes 12 on fixed spindles clean the outsides of the bottles in known manner. A row of freshly inserted bottles is then sprayed internally by nozzles 31, of ordinary type, with hot water, after which the table rotates one step. According to the invention, a row of brushes 26, Fig. 2, is then raised and introduced into the partially filled bottles, after which the brushes descend. The bottles are then sprayed with lye and travel to the next row of moving brushes. The brushes 26 are mounted on shafts 25, worm driven, and movable vertically by movement of levers 29 engaging rollers 28 on a bar 27. The holders 10 are made of two short claws situated between the brushes 12 leaving as much of the bottles exposed as possible. The claws are carried on pins 11 to prevent one-sided pressure and to allow the bottles to be turned easily during brushing. The table a has on its inner edge an iron ring c, Fig. 3, and on its outer edge a ring d. A toothed rim f is fixed by screws on to the ring c, and a toothed segment g on a shaft h periodically meshes with the rim f. The shaft h carries a worm wheel i, Fig. 1, connecting with a worm m permanently rotated by a pulley k. The ring d, Fig. 5, has a succession of openings n engageable by a bolt o mounted on a sleeve p arranged in an iron band r screwed to a girder q in the machine frame. The sleeve p is secured by a nut s and a spring x bears against a shoulder u on the bolt o. A twoarmed lever 2, 3 is mounted on the free end y of the bolt by a pin z. The upper lever arm 2 engages in a counter bearing fork 5 of the band r and the lower end 3 is pressed by the spring x with its roller 6 against curved surfaces 7, 8 of a cam 9. When the cam race 8 comes under the roller 6 of the lever arm 3 this arm swings outwards about the fulcrum 5 and releases the bolt o from the rim d, allowing the table a to rotate a step.
