Abstract
322,068. Powley & Sons, Ltd., R., and Powley, M. Nov. 6, 1928. Bottles, jars, and the like, washing.-Bottles, jars, or like vessels x fed automatically into the machine from supports 11 are received and cleaned externally by brushes 9 rotating in a tank 10, and subsequently enter cups 3 on an intermittently-moving conveyer 1 which carries the bottles up to positions where they are cleaned internally by reciprocating rotary brushes 22 and sprayed by jets of liquid from a pipe 28. The bottles are moved from the supports 11 by a reciprocating cross-bar 12 actuated indirectly by a cam on a shaft 18. Means are provided for tilting the cross-bar on its return movement whereby it avoids contact with bottles on the supports. The brushes 22 are mounted in a carriage 23, to which reciprocating movement is imparted through the medium of levers 43, links 46, rocker arms 45, and cams 48 on the shaft 18. As the brushes engage the bottles they force them partly out of the cups 3 against the action of spring-loaded yielding abutments 35. The bottles after being sprayed internally are discharged from the machine through an aperture having an intermittently-opening hinged door 31 actuated indirectly by cam means on the shaft 18.
