Abstract

229,396. Strachan, J. M. Nov. 21, 1923. - Rod couplings.-A connection for pillars, &c. a, b, comprises tapering projections c, on opposite sides of each of the parts to be coupled adjacent to their abutting ends and coupling plates d, having a tapering recess e, to receive the two adjacent projections on each side, and holes f, to receive a transverse bolt h in such a manner that transverse closing of the plates d will pull the members a, b together and maintain them in alignment. The projections, which are preferably semi-truncated cones, may be situated in recesses formed in the ends of the members, or in plates secured to the ends of the parts to be coupled. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, where the ends to be joined are stepped, the coupling plates d on the opposite sides, which engage tapering projections c on the cover plates a<1>, b<1> and a<2>, b<2>, may be out of line with each other and each engaged by a separate bolt h<1>, h<2>.
