Abstract
A vehicle anti-theft security system comprises an extended movement of the driver's seat which is locked by independent means if a fully forward position. The seat may travel on a telescopic slide-way from the normal driving position so that the seat obstructs the use of fool operated controls and the seat back obstructs access to the steering wheel and part of the facia panel. Without the locking mechanism being released and the attitude of the seat readjusted, the vehicle cannot be driven. <IMAGE>
Description
VEHICLE ADDITIONAL SECU < ITY CYSTS! This invention relates to an additional security system for private and commercial vehicles.
Vehicle theft is a predominant nuisance and statistic in published crime figures throughout present day societies.
Notwithstanding existing security systems involving door locking, ignition isolation and immobilising devices which are overcome by the use of counter electronic devices, the blocking of access to the steering wheel, foot operated controls and facia installations by an adjustable driving seat will deny such access.
In the invention presented there is provided a telescopic slideway if necessary for the driver's seat allowing extra forward movement to a predetermined and lockable stop. At this point the seat squab will be at rest close to the foot operated controls while the seat back squab will be allowed to pivot if necessary so as to envelope the steering wheel and adjacent facia panel, With the seat assembley locked in this position, the vehicle is impossible to drive.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accoripanying drawings in which
Fig 1. Shows a vehicle driving seat in a
(a) Normal driving position
(b) Stationary secure position denying access to
vehicle controls and facia.
Fig 2. Shows a longitudinal section of a vehicle and the
driver's seat in the stationary secure position
having been moved forward from the driving position.
Fig 3. Indicates a telescopic sliderail for the drivers
seat, manually or otherwise locked in the stationary
secure mode at the back squab pivot.
Note:- The use of a telescopic sliderail is employed when
the existing seat adjustment mechanism cannot be
developed to allow extended seat travel.
Referring to the drawing, the present invention is portrayed in figure lb. The driving seat has been moved forward with extended travel and the seat back allowed to pivot forward so as to obstruct both movement of the steering wheel and access to the facia panel. This movement is also indicated in figure 2 by direction arrows and in which the steering wheel and foot operated controls are shown in juxta position. It is in this position that the seat is locked.
Figure 3 shows a locking device located at the pivot point of the seat back squab. The sectional view details an example of a key operated barrel and spigot lock. The side view (fig 3) portrays hook retainers for the seat locking mechanism and in both views the telescopic extension is shown. Mghen the mechanism is unlocked, the driving seat is allowed to slide back and obtain a normal driving attitude.
Claims (5)
1. A provision for vehicle security either in its own
right or additional to any security device already
in place by means of allowing the driving seat to
move forward from its normal driving position so as
to envelope the steering wheel and simultaneously
obstruct the foot controls and facia panel.
2. An adjustable seat as in claim 1 wherein an additional
seat running track is provided to allow an extension
to the forward movement of the seat.
3. An adjustable seat back squab as in claim 1 wherein
the back squab mentioned is allowed to pivot at its
base so that the top can rest in close proximity to
the steering wheel.
4. That when either or both claim 2 and 3 are employed
a locking device secures the seat wholly in a position
to envelope the steering wheel and obstruct the foot
controls and facia panel. The locking device being
independent of any other safeguard or immobiliser.
5. A fully forward adjustable vehicle driving seat as
substantially described herein with reference to
figures 1 - 3 of the accompanying drawing.
