Abstract
228,740. Murray, T. E. March 31, 1924. Moulding in situ.- A rubber core for moulding concrete &c. conduits consists of para rubber to the extent of forty per cent or more, so as to be sufficiently elastic to be detached readily from the surrounding concrete surface and also to regain its normal shape after contraction due to withdrawal from the concrete; when a tubular core is used, the thickness of the material is at least one-eighth of the diameter of the core. The conduits are moulded in sections, the rubber core 2 being pulled to cause it to contract and become detached from the concrete surface 1 and then being placed in position for moulding a further section. The core is formed with a smooth outer surface and may be adapted to form a series of ducts 6, Fig. 3, and also ducts in floors and walls. Means to facilitate withdrawal of the core may be provided in the form of blocks 26, Fig. 7, spaced apart and connected together by a chain 27 which is also attached to a thick rubber tube 28, seured at the end of each of a number of rubber cores arranged in line. The size of the blocks is such as to hold the core distended in use and also to allow the necessary contraction. The blocks 26 also provide means for gripping the core, as by a clamp so as to facilitate withdrawal of the tube, the free end of which may be taken up on a reel. For ducts of oblong cross-section the core and the blocks mav be made of corresponding shape, as shown in Fig. 8. Specification 151,692 is referred to.
