Abstract

A ladder support comprises a base plate (1) with a three sided frame (3) and a non slip base (2) for use when using a ladder. When a ladder is to be used the plate is placed with the open side of the three sided frame (3) facing the surface upon which the top of the ladder is to be rested. The ladder is then inserted and rested on the surface. Pins (5) can be inserted into soft surfaces, such as lawns, through holes in the base plate (4). When the ladder has to be moved it can be removed from the three sided frame and the plate repositioned. <IMAGE>

Description

LADDER SAFETY PLATE This invention relates to a ladder safety plate.
Ladders are commonplace and can be placed on a variety of surfaces. Moreover when placed on a lawn surface damage can be caused when the ladder legs sink into soft ground. Moreover ladders often necessitate a helper to steady the ladder and prevent the ladder slipping at the base.
According to the invention outlined herein there is provided a ladder safety plate comprising a rectangular plate with a non slip base, three sided frame to retain ladder legs and four pins provided to be inserted, when base is placed on a soft surface, through holes located one in each corner of the base plate. Said pins with raised heads for ease of extraction.
A specific embodiment will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 Shows in perspective, the base retaining plate.
Figure 2 Shows a side view with retaining pins shown.
Figure 3 Shows a cross section of the safety plate with raised head pins inserted.
Figure 4 Shows the retaining plate with pins inserted and ladder inserted.
Referring to the drawing the safety plate comprises a base rectangular plate (1) with a non slip lower surface (2). The plate has a three sided frame (3) attached or as an integral part of the base. The base has a hole in each comer (4) through which pins (5) may be inserted.
The ladder safety plate would be placed near a surface against which a ladder is to be rested with the open side of the three sided frame (3) facing the surface. A ladder is then placed inside the three sided frame and rested against the surface as shown in Figure 4. The three sided frame (3) reduces any side to side or backward movement of the ladder. The plate would distribute the weight of the ladder and the non slip base would increase the traction. If the surface on which the plate is soft then the pins (5) can be inserted through the holes in the plate (4) and into the soft surface reducing movement of the plate and decreasing damage to soft surface. To reposition the ladder simply remove it from the plate, reposition the plate and reinsert the ladder as described above.

Claims (1)

  1. (1) A ladder safety plate comprising a rectangular plate with a non slip base, three sided frame to retain ladder legs and four pins provided to be inserted, when base is placed on a soft surface, through holes located one in each corner of the base plate.
Said pins with raised heads for ease of extraction.
    (2) A ladder safety plate as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the three sided frame prevents side to side and backward movement of a ladder when inserted into the frame.
    (3) A ladder safety plate as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the non slip base provides traction between the ladder and the surface on which the safety plate is resting.
