Description
PORTABLE LADDER STAY 2338980 This Invention relates to a Portable Ladder
Stay.
Builders and Decorators ladders are liable to slip and dig, into lawns or soft ground, creating a dangerous situation for the user.
This Invention can be pressed into the ground in any desired position, and the base of the ladder placed against the vertical plate Item 2 in Fig 1 which attached to base plate Item 1 in Fig 1. The end plates Item 3 prevent the ladder sliding sideways and the pegs Item 4 prevent movement in any direction.
Referring to the drawing the Ladder Stay comprises a base plate Item 1 to which is fastened a vertical plate Item 2 supported by an end plate Item 3 at each end. To the underside of the base plate Item I are attached 4 pegs Item 4 which are pressed into the ground to prevent the devise from slipping.
A (2) Claims: I. A portable ladder stay for supporting the lower ends of the stiles of a ladder comprising a base having an upper surface on which the lower ends of the stiles are supported in use and a restraining member extending transversely across the base to provide a surface extending upwardly from the upper surface of the base for engaging the stiles of the ladder to restrict movement thereof relatively to the base.
2. A portable ladder stay according to claim 1, wherein the restraining member extends transversely of the base at a point between the front and the rear edges thereof. 3. A portable ladder stay according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the restraining member extends transversely of the base across the centre thereof. 4. A portable stay according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the restraining member extends transversely of the base across the full width of the base between the- ide edges thereof.
5. A portable stay according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the restraining member has end members at each end thereof extending from the end of the restraining member to the upper surface of the base to restrain the ladder stiles against sideways movement relatively to the base. 6. A portable stay according to claim 5, wherein each (3) end member comprises an end plate of substantially triangular shape. 7. A portable stay according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the restraining member comprises a vertical plate extending vertically upwardly from the upper surface of the base. 8. A portable stay according to claim 7, wherein the vertical plate is secured to or formed integrally with the base.
9. A portable stay according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the lower surface of the base is provided with means for restraining movement of the base relatively to a surface on which the ladder stay is placed in use. 10. A portable ladder stay according to claim 9, wherein the means for restraining movement comprises one or more ground penetrating members. 11. A portable stay according to claim 10, wherein the or each ground penetrating member comprises a peg extending vertically downwardly from the lower surface of the base.
12. A portable stay according to claim 11, wherein the free end of the or each peg is sharpened to facilitate penetration of the surface on which the ladder stay is placed in use. 13. A portable stay according to any one of claims 9 to 12, wherein said means for restraining movement of the base is aligned with the restraining member.
(4) 14. A portable stay constructed, arranged and adapted to operate substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to, and as illustrated by, the accompanying drawings.
