Abstract

A ladder anchor consists of a cradle 1 for the accommodation of individual weights, hand holes 2 for easy movement of the device, and straps 3 to attach or secure the weighted cradle to the base of a ladder. The cradle should be fitted with a high friction ground engaging surface.

Description

LAnDER ANCHOR DISSCRIP'l'ION The invention relates to providing a secure
anchor for ladders to prevent slipping of the ladder.
At the moment the usual means of securing a ladder to prevent slipping is to have someone stand on the lower rung or secure the base of flee ladder against an immovable object such as a neighbouring house, it is not safe to work on a ladder without means of securing its base.
This invention is intended to provide a safe means of preventing the base of a ladder slipping. This will allow: (1) solo workman (private) to work safely up a ladder without slipping (2) eliminate the need ot'someone to stand on the base of a ladder in any site requiring inspection, maintenance or construction (3) will eliminate the need for an alternative anchor less safe (4) minimise the need to approach neighbours for permission to enter their property (also disturbing said neighbours, pets or facing refusal).
This invention consists ova craddle with hand holes, a high friction under surl'ace (under base), individual weights and two securing straps. The craddle should be of a robust, durable material such as metal. The tinder surface should be a high friction material, permanently at'fxed, such as rubber. The individual weights should all lit in the craddle in alignment with the edges of the craddle, the securing straps should be of robust flexable, durable material.

As shown in figure I the craddle ( I) has a base, a back and front but no sides. The base is as wide as the base of a ladder. There are two handholds (2) to allow carrying when dissassembled. The straps (3), to ai'i'ix to a ladder, are attached to one end, and long enough to allow the anchor to be attached to a ladder below and ad Scent to the bottom rung without the body oi'the anchor becoming a tripping hazard. The length of the cradle should e sul'ficient to provide maximum friction on the surface it is resting on but not so long as to dissipate the friction of the weights.
As shown in figure 2 the body of the craddle ( I) has the straps (3), for attaching to a ladder, around the middle point of each side. The permanently affixed high friction surface (4) is shown attached to the bottom of the cradle. The craddle allows space for about 80 kg oi'weights (ie 16x 5kg) or more.
Figure 3 shows a top view of the assembled anchor. The edges of the weights (5) should be aliegned with the edges oi'the craddlc. The weights fit securely/snuggly but not tightly into the cradle.
Figure 4 shows an assembled anchor from a side view. The weights (5) arc snug against the front and back of the cradle (1). The high friction surface (4) is attached to the bottom. 'he securing straps (3) are located around the centre oi'one side ol'thc craddle.
Tlle anchor is designed to be dismantled for ease of transference between site and transport. The anchor craddle (I) is to be laid on a reasonably flat surface clear of stones etc which can act as ballbearings or otherwise reduce friction, secured to the legs ol'the ladder possibly below the bottom rung via the straps (3) which should be taut The ladder should still be correctly placed. 'I'he weights evenly loaded onto the craddle (fgurc 3). After use the weights (5) can be removed as convenient to transfer anchor to vehicle or storage.

Claims (1)

  1. Claims An anchor consists of a craddle, a high friction underside for
    contact with the ground/surface, straps and individual WCig]ltS.
    1/ An anchor to secure the base of a ladder.
    2/ Tile anchor is intended to provide similar safety to someone up a ladder as someone standing on the bottom rung.
    3/ 'the anchor is intended to be a substitute for anyone standing on the ladders bottom rung 4/ An anchor as claimed in any proceeding claim which is made from metal, plastics material or wood or from any combination of these robust and durable materials.
    5/ The anchor is intended to be dismantled for transport and assembled for use.
