Abstract

228,343. Akimoff, N. W. Feb. 4, 1924. Screw propellers.-An appendage for attachment to the boss of a screw propeller comprises a cap closed at its outer end and provided with an elongated body projecting rearwardly therefrom. The appendage 13 consists of a closed cap, attached by a flange 14 to the propeller boss 12, and a cylindrical hollow body portion. The body portion may be smooth, may have exterior ribs, or be provided with slots when the outer end is open. Instead of being cylindrical, the body may be of cone shape or made with a flared end, and in some cases the hollow core is dispensed with. The appendage may be connected to the boss by a universal joint and be given a certain amount of lateral motion.
