227,837. Eckel, E. C. Jan. 14, 1924, [Convention date]. Extracting. - Titaniferous iron ore is mixed with a calcareous material such as limestone and heated in a furnace (of electric or other type) preferably equipped with a hot blast, until the mixture, fuses at about 1400-1500‹ C. The greater part of the iron is tapped off from the bottom of the furnace, while the upper layer of slag is withdrawn continuously or intermittently, cooled, and ground to a fine powder which constitutes cement.
