Abstract

In the manufacture of metallurgical cement, i.e. blast furnace, iron Portland cement and like cements in which blast furnace slag is incorporated during manufacture, the raw materials are sintered on a bed of undried slag sand on a blast grate, and the sintered material is then finely ground. The raw materials may be loosened before sinteriug by quickly stirring or whipping while moisture is added, as desscribed in Specification 454,750, or the structure may be loosened by adding material having a coarser grain, e.g. sinter returns. The fuel may be mixed with the raw materials. Specification 375,950 also is referred to.
