Abstract

An anti-theft device for track-laying vehicles eg. small excavators which when in position will prevent the machine from being moved more than a foot in either direction consists of two pieces A, B of steel, each of which has a bend at one end and a connecting hole at the other end. To fit the clamp, the bands are engaged with opposite track pads, the pieces A and B are connected together, a pin C is put through the connecting holes and a padlock D is attached to the pin. <IMAGE>

Description

TRACK CLAMP This invention relates to a track clamp.
Mini-excavators (track laid vehicles) are used extensively in the civil engineering industry and are frequently subject to theft. The cost of one of these vehicles is in the region of 20,000.
The track clamp is intended to be used to prevent a machine from being removed. The clamp is made up of two pieces of steel (A and B). Part A has a bend at one end and a connecting hole at the other end, part B has a bend at one end and a sleeve at the other end. There is also a padlock and a connecting pin. The connecting pin has a hole to enable the padlock to be fitted through it. The sleeve also has a hole through it.
The invention is described as follows with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 shows in cross-sectional view the two separate metal struts - A and B. Part C shows the insertion pin and Part D the locking device in exploded view.
Figure 2 shows Parts A and B engaged, with the insertion pin C in place.
Figure 3 shows the apparatus in position over the track pad of the vehicle.
To connect the clamp to a vehicle, the bend of part A slots over the track pad and the bend of part B slots over the opposite track pad.
Parts A and B are connected together with the sleeve as seen in Figure 2.
The pin is then put through Parts A and B, the padlocked as seen in Figure 3.
This particular example of the invention relates to a vehicle with an outside track width of 152.4 cm but a modification in length of parts A and B will permit the apparatus to be fitted to any other sized track vehicle.

Claims (3)

1. As stated above, many min-excavators and track laid vehicles are stolen, and this invention is intended to act as a deterrent to theft, as when the apparatus is in position the vehicle can only move a foot in either direction.
2. The clamp is easy to assemble and dismantle - by unlocking the padlock and releasing the insertion pin.
3. When not in use the storage of the apparatus would cause minimum inconvenience.
