Abstract

A device which prevents the screw or hydraulic or similar adjustable legs of a caravan or trailer from being raised thus preventing the caravan or trailer from being moved. The device has two parts inner 'a' and outer 'b' in the form of channel sections which slide one within the other. The device is fitted over the appropriate portion 'c' of screwthread or hydraulic piston rod associated with the retraction of the leg and extended to occupy the full available length. A padlock 'd' or similar means is passed through a set of aligned holes to secure the inner and outer portions. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A leg/stay anti-theft device for caravans and trailers This invention relates to an anti-theft device for Caravans and Trailers.
Caravans and trailers are well known vehicles that are easily stolen by being either towed or transported away.
Most caravans and trailers are equipped with a means of levelling and steadying them in the static position.
According to the present invention there is provided a device which prevents the adjustable corner leg or stay from being raised thereby preventing a caravan or trailer from being moved.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 shows in perspective the elements of the device.
Figure 2, 3, 4, shows the device in position on a typical variety of screw actuated leg/stay arrangements.
Figure 5 shows the device in position on a typical hydraulic/pneumatic actuated corner stay arrangement.
Referring to Fig. 1, the device comprises of an inner portion 'a' in the form of a channel section which has a series of inline holes along the side walls, which are positioned below the line of the screw thread and or piston rod 'c', an outer portion 'b' in the form of a channel section which is free to pass over the inner 'a'. The outer 'b' has two sets of holes positioned inline, at differing pitches to those of the inner 'a'.
The device is secured in position on the leg/stay by example a padlock 'd' or similar means (not shown).
In order to fit the device the caravan/trailer legs/stays must first be lowered to the ground as shown in Figs. 2 to 5.
In order to fit the device to legs/stays with screw threads, the two parts inner 'a' and outer 'b' are fitted together as shown in Fig.
1. Position them over screw thread between the nut 'e' and end support 'f' in area 'g' traversed by nut 'e' when leg/stay is being raised as illustrated in Figs. 2, 3, and 4. It is then extended to cover the exposed area of thread 'g' until the holes in inner 'a' and outer 'b' align. A padlock 'd' or similar is fitted through the nearest aligned holes and fastened.
In order to fit the device to legs/stays actuated by hydraulic/pneumatic means, the device is positioned over the exposed cylinder piston rod 'h' and adjusted and secured as previously described.
To remove the device from the legs/stays the steps described above are carried out in reverse.
1. A device comprising of an inner and outer portion which can be expanded in increments, and secured by means of a padlock or similar means to occupy the area of exposed thread of a caravan/trailer corner leg/stay preventing the latter from being raised.
2. A device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the area of exposed piston rod of a hydraulic/pneumatic cylinder actuated stay is used.
