227,277. Wood, H. S., and Rudge- Whitworth, Ltd. Jan. 9, 1924. Ball and roller bearings.-The race rings of ball, roller and like bearings are finished by a barrelling process so as to give them a surface similar to that on the balls or like rolling elements. After they have been ground to nearly the finished sizes the race rings are placed in a barrel with a large quantity of steel balls and with a reducing medium consisting of an abrasive powder and paraffin. The barrel is then rotated until the grinding marks have been removed and the rings have a surface that will take a high polish. After washing, the rings are re-barrelled in a medium of potash and water until they have the desired finish..
