Abstract

226,415. Hartmann, C. W. April 2, 1924. Inking-apparatus.-An ink supply device of the kind provided with a container for replenishing the ink in the inking-roller trough and with means to keep the head of the ink in the trough constant, comprises a container for the ink, a separate container for spirit or other ink solvent, and regulable means for delivering the contents of either container to the trough which has an overflow outlet communicating with an auxiliary container. Mounted on a rod 3 alongside the ink trough 1 containing the inking-roller 2 is a support 3<a> for two containers 4, 5 containing respectively aniline ink solution and the solvent. A tap 7, admitting ink to the trough through a pipe 6, may be regulated to replenish the ink in the trough as fast as it is taken up by the roller 2, and an overflow pipe 8 discharging into an auxiliary container 9 ensures a constant level of ink in the trough. Thickening of the ink in the trough, due to evaporation of the solvent, is avoided by admitting fresh solvent from the container 5 through a pipe 11 leading to a cross tube 12 having outlets regulated by taps 13, 14 to each end of the trough. The pipe 12 may be carried by pivoted arms 15 so that its outlets can be swung clear of the trough when the latter is to be removed for cleaning.
