Abstract
226,404. Cromwell, H. C., Borup, O. V., and Day, P. W. March 4, 1924. Axle-trucks.-In an axle-truck for railway vehicles of the type comprising pilot and trailer truck frames 20 and a central truck frame 30 suitably articulated, and a plate 37 for co-ordinating the angular movements of the frames, friction-reducing elements of a rigid and non-yielding nature are introduced at points 38 disposed within the wheel bases between the co-ordinating plate and the pilot and trailer truck frames so as to reduce the friction arising from the relative horizontal movement of these frames. In the construction shown, the pilot and trailer truck frames are articulated to the centre frame 30 by means of hemispherical surfaces 24 forming universal joints, while bearing-surfaces 36, 44 on the central frame and the co-ordinating plate respectively allow a vertical and transverse relative sliding movement between these parts, but no relative angular movement in a horizontal plane. The friction-reducing elements 39 are disposed between the ends 38, Fig. 3, of the arms of the co-ordinating plate and upstanding bases 25 formed on the pilot and trailer truck frames, and may be provided, as shown in Fig. 9, with upper and lower curved surfaces 40 and end stops 40<a>, which enter between flanges 41, 41<a> on the members 25. 38. In a modified construction. Fig. 5, the friction-reducing elements comprise flat plates 45, each of which has a rib 46 entering between the flanges 41 or 41<a>. The co-ordinating plate is also provided with bearings 35 formed on the arms 38 and contacting with rocker bearings 27 on the pilot and trailer trucks. Specification 170,051 is referred to.
