Abstract

226,103. Bartlett, D. May 28, 1924. Continuous-discharge apparatus with stationary containers. - An apparatus for damping grain comprises a conveyer 12 supplied with grain from a conduit 14 and with water from a vessel 21 mounted to rock on a pivot 20 under the action of a belt 38 which is connected through a wheel 32 to a grid 35 that moves in the conduit according to the quantity of grain passing through. An adjustable counterweight 34 is connected to a spiral flange on the wheel 32, to which a dashpot 40 is also connected. The level of water in the vessel 21 is maintained by a siphon 25 leading from a tank 27 supplied through a ball-valve 28. The quantity of water discharged by the vessel 21 in any position may be varied by a transverse slide 47 partially covering the outlet. If excess of grain accumulates in the the conduit 14, the flap 58 is moved outwardly and breaks a toggle jointed to a stay, allowing a spring to move a flap 54. This flap opens an outlet 17 and cuts off the supply 16 from the conduit 14.
