Abstract

225,826. Campbell, C. Dec. 6, 1923, [Convention date]. Ink ribbons.-An ink ribbon consists of a thin coated or impregnated strip made from felted or matted cellulose fibres free from lignin, i.e. having a negative reaction with phloroglucinol hydrochloric acid. The ink ribbon has a substantially homogeneous surface and produces typed characters having a continuous inked surface. Preferably the bast fibres of the paper mulberry are employed and are made into a strip by the following process : The bleached and purified fibres are suspended in water and fed on to a screen where they form a matted or felted layer which is subsequently dried, ironed, cut into strips, and impregnated, or coated on one side with ink. The usual process of gumming the edges of the strip is omitted.
