Abstract

A soap rest (10) has a generally planar base portion (12) forming a recess which contains several projections (18) which project beyond the mouth of the recess. The projections are pressed into the base of a bar of soap which can then be rested on the soap rest in a soap dish, clear of any water which may collect in the dish. A stand is also disclosed which can support the soap with the soap rest attached. <IMAGE>

Description

Title: Soan Rest The present invention relates to a device for a bar of soap.

Normally, soap is kept in a soap dish or the like during use.

Unfortunately, it is quite common for water to collect in the soap dish which tends to soften the underside of the soap bar reducing the useful life of the soap bar and making it generally messy to handle.

Accordingly, the present invention provides a device for supporting a bar of soap above a support surface, the device comprising: a base portion having a first surface for abutting said support surface and a second surface thereon for engaging an underside of said bar of soap.

The present invention also provides a device for supporting a bar of soap above a support surface, the device comprising: a base portion having a first surface for abutting said support surface and a second surface having at least one projection thereon for engaging an underside of said bar of soap.

In a preferred form of the invention, said base portion is a wall defining a recess and a plurality of said projections are formed on an inner wall of said recess and project level with or beyond a mouth of said recess.

The present invention is further described hereinafter, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a preferred form of device according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a plan view of the device of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.

Figure 4 is a side elevation of a bar of soap supported by the device of Figure 1; and Figure 5 shows a form of stand on which the device may be supported.

The drawings show a device 10 which is used for supporting a bar of soap in a soap dish or the like. The device has a base portion 12 which is generally planar in shape. However, any suitable shape of base portion 12 may be used.

The base portion has an outer surface 14 which, in use, abuts the soap dish, and an inner surface 16 on which are formed a number of upstanding projections 18. Although thirteen such projections are shown in the drawings, the number may be varied as desired.

The projections extend beyond a mouth 20 of a recess formed by the base portion 12 and the tips of the projections 18 may conveniently lie in a generally curved, dome-like plane.

In use, the projections are pressed into the base of a bar of soap which can then be rested on the base 10 in a soap dish, clear of any water which may collect in the bottom of the soap dish. As will be appreciated, the shapes of the projections, the base portion 12 and the surfaces 14 and 16 may be varied as desired into any suitable shape.

Figure 4 shows a bar of soap 22 supported on the device 10 and Figure 5 shows a cross section through a stand 24 which may be used for supporting the device 10.

Claims

1. A device for supporting a bar of soap above a support surface, the device comprising: a base portion having a first surface for abutting said support surface and a second surface having at least one projection thereon for engaging said bar of soap.

2. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein said base portion is a wall defining a recess and said projection is upstanding in said recess and projects beyond a mouth of said recess.

3. A device as claimed in claim 1 or 2 comprising a plurality of said projections.

4. A device as claimed in claim 3 wherein the tips of said projections lie substantially in a generally curved, dome-like plane.

5. A device as claimed in any preceding claim wherein said base portion is generally planar.

6. A device for supporting a bar of soap above a support surface, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
