Abstract

225,554. Siemens - Schuckertwerke Ges. Nov. 26, 1923, [Convention date]. Exciting; protective or safety devices, auxiliary.-For effecting rapid de-excitation of an electric generator, a system of connections is employed whereby the field energy of the generator is returned into the exciting-machine, there being o subsequent short-circuiting of the generator field winding. Fig. 1 shows an alternator the field winding of which is energized by a shunt-wound exciter e. Between the exciter armature and the branching-off point of the two field windings b, c there is placed a resistance r with a normallyclosed switch s arranged in parallel. When it is required to de-excite the generator quickly, the switch s is opened, and the field energy of the generator surges back into the exciting-machine which will have its polarity reversed. The resistance r in conjunction with the other resistances and inductances makes the exciting circuit capable of oscillating. The shunt regulator d may be adjusted or a separate resistance may be introduced into the field circuit of the exciter simultaneously with the opening of the switch s. The field of the exciter, demagnetized or reversed, may be re-established from a separate source of continuous current; the exciter may be permanently excited by a separate source. Specifiation 148,625 is referred to.
