Abstract
An extension adaptor 1 for the handle of a decorator's tool is generally tubular having at one end clamping means 4, 5, 7 to receive and clamp the handle of a decorator's tool and at the other end connecting means 2 for releasably connecting the adaptor to an end of an extension pole. The clamping means comprises a plurality of fingers 4 which are urged into engagement around the shaft of the handle by a screw threaded sleeve 5 having means 7 which engage the outer surface of the fingers. <IMAGE>
Description
An Extension AdaPtor for the Handle of a Decorator's Tool
Description
This invention relates to an extension adaptor for the handle of a decorator's tool.
Heretofore, it has been the practice when using a decorator's tool eg a brush with an extension pole, to tape the handle of the brush to an end of the extension pole. A disadvantage of this practice is that sooner or later the brush becomes loose on the end of the pole.
The object of this invention is to obviate or mitigate this disadvantage.
According to the invention there is provided an extension adaptor for the handle of a decorator's tool, the adapter being generally tubular having one end clamping means to receive and clamp the handle of a decorator's tool and at the other end connecting means for releasably connecting the adaptor to an end of an extension pole.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing showing an adaptor in axial section.
In the drawing, an adaptor comprises a tubular body 1 having at one end an internal screw-thread 2 to receive an internally screw-threaded end of an extension pole (not shown). Intermediate the ends of the body 1 is an internally screw-threaded portion 3 and beyond this extend flexible leaves 4. A nut 5 has at one end an internally screw-threaded portion 6 engaging the portion 3. At the other end of the nut 5 there is an inwardly directed circular seat 7 arranged to bear on the outer surfaces of the leaves 4. It will be seen that the leaves 4 can accommodate and clamp them within a handle of a decorator's tool, eg a paintbrush, within a range of diameters by adjustment of the nut 5.
In the drawing, four leaves are shown, but more or less leaves are also envisaged. In order to cater for flat handles only two leaves may be provided, wider and one facing the other.
Claims (4)
1. An extension adaptor for the handle of a decorator's tool, the adaptor being generally tubular and having at one end clamping means to receive and clamp the handle of a decorator's tool and at the other end connecting means for releasable connecting the adaptor to an end of an extension pole.
2. An extension adaptor according to claim 1, wherein the clamping means comprises a plurality of resilient fingers which receive the handle of decorator's tool and a nut having an inwardly directed seat bearing on the outer surfaces of the fingers in order to clamp the tool within the adaptor.
3. An extension adaptor according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the connecting means comprises an internal screw-thread portion of the extension adaptor.
4. An extension adaptor according to any preceding claim especially as hereinbefore described with references shown in the drawing.
