Skid.-A skid brake for motorvehicles comprises slippers k, mounted by arms j on a cross .shaft carried in bearings d formed at the ends of springs c, which are adapted to be thrust between the wheels and the ground when the cross shaft is rocked by a lever h acting through connections g, f. The movement of the slippers to application position is effected against the resistance of a spring n<1> carried by a chain n, and their rearward movement is limited by a chain m. The arms j may be formed integral with the cross shaft, and similar mechanism may be provided at the rear of the wheels.
