224,687. Turner, D. E., and Rotar, Ltd. Oct. 17, 1923. Folding seats.-A pivoted seat is tipped by a spring when not in use, the spring being compressed when the seat is lowered. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the casing 3 is secured, detachably or otherwise, to the seat standard, and the_seat 4 carries a disc 11, Fig. 4, which faces the said casing and has mounted thereon a stop . 10. The stop abuts against one end of the spring 6, the other end of which bears against the end 8 of the recess 5. The disc may be integral with, or detachably connected to, the seat and the relative positions of the casing and stop may be reversed with regard to the fixed and moving parts of the seat. In order to support the seat when lowered, a second projection 13 on the disc bears on a stop 12 provided within the casing 3. External projections 16, 17 on the casing and on the opposite standard respectively may also be provided to support the seat. A spindle 14 on which the seat pivots passes through the disc and casing and is supported by the casing alone, or in addition by a bearing carried by the seat standard.
