Cutting slices in succession. -- In a slicing-machine, the feed mechanism is connected directly to the main shaft by means which are adjustable for varying the slice thickness and the usual regulating-cam for the feed ratchet is dispensed with. In Fig. 1, the connecting-rod 3, which reciprocates the under carriage, is provided with a roller 5 which engages a slotted cam plate 6, pivoted to the frame at 7, and connected, by a link 9, to a sliding bar 11, the position of which relative to the feed pawl 13 is adjusted, for slice thickness variation, by a member 12. In a modification, the pivotal point 7 is movable, for slice thickness adjustment, and the cam plate 6 is connected either directly to the bar 11 which, in this case, has rack teeth at its end, engaging a pinion on the feed screw, the pinion having a pawl-carrying arm co-operating with the ratchet, or by a link to the bar 11 which may then contact with the feed pawl, as in Fig. 1, or be linked thereto by a rod as in Fig. 4. In further modifications, a cam mounted on the crank shaft operates, through suitable links, a sliding bar mounted on the frame, the bar contacting with the feed pawl or being connected directly thereto. The slice thickness is varied by adjusting the position of the sliding bar relatively to the feed paw or by altering the position of the pivotal support of one of the links.
