224,278. British Insulated & Helsby Cables, Ltd., Packer, J. L., and Vernier, C. Aug. 3, 1923. Drawings to Specification. Cable couplings to junction boxes &c. That portion of a lead sheathed or lead covered and armoured cable which lies adjacent to the wipe joint connecting the cable and box is reinforced by a covering or sleeve of metal or alloy having a low melting point, which is preferably cast round it and includes the end of the wipe joint. Where armouring is present the ends of the armour wires or tape may also be encased by the sleeve. A winding of copper &c. wire may first be applied over the exposed portion of the lead sheath and extended over the armour wires &c. as additional reinforcement and to protect the lead sheath from excessive heating during the casting. A detachable mould is employed and bonding lugs may be formed on or attached to the sleeve
