Abstract

In a process for printing textiles by the usual methods and fixing by steam, ethylene glycol and ethylene chlorhydrin are employed singly or together as constituents of the printing pastes, fuller and brighter shades being thereby obtained. Special advantages accrue when the additions are made to strongly alkaline pastes and to colour discharges with basic dyestuffs on wool and cotton. Examples show the use of ethylene glycol for weighted silk in pastes containing Eriochrome red B, ammonia and gum, and for chlorinated wool in pastes containing Solid blue B, gum and ammonium oxalate. The use of ethylene chlorhydrin is exemplified for weighted silk in pastes containing Chromazurol S conc., chromacetate and starch tragacanth; for unweighted silk in pastes containing Acid orange A, gum and ammonium oxalate; for chlorinated wool, weighted silk and cotton in paste containing Solid blue RR spirit-soluble and starch-tragacanth, and in the case of cotton and optionally for weighted silk tannin, the cotton being after-treated with tartar emetic; and for cotton and artificial silk in pastes containing methylene blue, acetic acid, starchtragacanth, tartaric acid and tannin, the fabric being after-treated with tartar emetic. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also gives examples of the use of ethylene glycol for chlorinated wool, weighted and unweighted silk, and cotton in pastes containing Nigrosine fat-soluble and starch-tragacanth, and in the case of cotton, and optionally for weighted silk, tannin, the cotton being after-treated with tartar emetic. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
