Impact pulverizers.-A pulverizer comprises a casing into which extend two oppositely-rotating aligned shafts one of which carries a bladed beater and the other a dished member which may be adapted partly to embrace the beater and is provided with radial vanes. The beater a, Fig. 1 on the end of the shaft b forms a ventilator or fan, and the concave or dished member c on the end of the shaft d has radial vanes e on its interior and exterior so that it forms a centrifugal ventilator or fan. The casing f may be jacketed and have on its interior a channelled surface which may be formed from a cylindrical plate g held in grooves f<1> in the casing. The outlet f<4> may be radial or tangential to the member c. The material to be treated is fed by a hopper f<2> and the pulverized material is carried by the air current into a chamber h, Fig. 4, mounted above the outlet f<4>. The chamber h is provided with a conduit h<1> leading to the regulating hopper f<3>, and has an inner lip or baffle h<2>. Two or more telescoping tubes i<1>, i<2> connect the chamber h to a. reservoir l. The heavier material falls down the tubes i<1>, i<2> and is directed by the plate h<2> to the hopper f<3>. The air is returned to the machine from the reservoir l by a conduit m which leads to the hopper f<3> and is fitted with a regulating flap or shutter n. The machine may comprise a number of dished members provided with vanes embracing one another and mounted alternately upon the shafts b, d, the dished members being provided with radial vanes so that they constitute a stepped or staged centrifugal fan.
