Abstract

223,537. Western Electric Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Heising, R. A.). Oct. 18, 1923, [Convention date]. Aerials and like radiating conductors.-In order to increase the radiating efficiency of an aerial when operating at wave-lengths near to or shorter than its natural frequency, a number of capacities C, Fig. 1, are inserted in series along the vertical and horizontal portions 10, 11 of the antenna. The arrangement of loading capacities for a double T aerial is shown in Fig. 5. The various condensers may be made sufficiently strong to take the mechanical strain; or the aerial segments may be separated by insulators which are then shunted by condensers of relatively weak structure. Such capacity loading is stated to minimize the effect of the anti-resonant loop circuits formed by electrostatic coupling between the various inductive portions of the aerial svstem, thereby decreasing the resistance and increasing the effective height of the aerial.
