Kinematograph apparatus comprises a base a, side standards c, a gate o, a lenticular eyepiece q, a mirror y, a ground glass screen x, intermittent mechanism, and payout and take-up spools, the intermittent mechanism and spools being mounted between the standards; the spools are connected by one-way clutches to pulleys 10 driven by a belt 12 from a pulley 13 on a drive shaft f so that the direction of feed mav be reversed. As shown in Fig. 2, each pulley 10 is mounted so as to be free to turn and slide on a sleeve 14 provided with a cam groove 15. A pin 16 engages the groove 15 and is caused, in accordance with the direction of feed, also to engage or disengage a ratchet 17 formed on the side of the spool. The spools comprise side flanges connected by a central tube and by an outer concentric tube having a single slot to receive the end of the film, the film being secured by a split tube which is sprung on to the slotted tube and turned to cover the slot. The spools when on the apparatus are protected by semicylindrical covers d<1>, e<1>, and when removed may be surrounded by a split band having overlapping ends and flanged edges which take over the spool sides. The gate o carries a hinged member u on which is pivoted a plate r carrying pressure rollers s bearing on the feed sprocket i. The member u may be turned about its hinge to remove the rollers s from the sprocket, and is retained in each position by a spring v connected to a crank w moving with it.
