Abstract

222,578. Hobdell, Way, & Co., Ltd., and Payne, M. July 5, 1923. Electromechanical apparatus; motors and dynamos, mounting.-A rail bogie is provided with an internal combustion engine having horizontal cylinders, an axle driven by an electromagnetic clutch adapted to form a generator and a second axle driven bv an electromotor supplied with current from the generator. In the motor bogie shown in plan in Fig. 2, an internal-combustion engine with horizontally opposed cylinders 15 is rigidly connected to .a bracket 17 carrying the generator 2, 3 and pivoted to the axle 7. This unit is also supported from transverse bogie frame members 20 by springs on which legs on the unit bear. The outer member 2 of the generator is driven by the engine and the inner member is geared to the axle by a reverse bevel gear in which either bewel wheel 6, 6a is put in operation by a clutch 24. One of the motors 9 is geared to the axle 12 and is similarly pivoted on this axle and supported from the bogie frame by springs.
