Description
Wall Paper Supply Unit
This invention relates to a wall paper supply unit for storage of rolls of wall paper in such a manner as to enable the paper to be fed onto a pasting table and accurately cut into required lengths.
The supply unit can be in the form of an accessory for attachment to a pasting table, or alternatlvly ct be supplied as an integral part of pasting table.
When pasting wall paper for hanging, the paper is usually unwound from a roll onto a pasting table, roughly treasured for length, cut and then pasted and offered up to a wal where it is accurately trimmed as the paper ;s adhered to the wall. This process is wasteful in paper espacially with patterned papers because of the problems cf pattern matches.
Furtherrore there is always a problem with trying to sut curling paper, and hold the curling paper down whilst pasting.
The present invention provides a wall paper supply unit which makes the act of wall papering easter, quicker, and more accurate.
According to this invention there is provited a wall paper supply unit for attachment to a pasting table an comprising a frame for mounting on the pasting taffle. at least one support bar detachably mounted on the franc for supporting on the frame a roll of wall paper through the center thereof so that the paper can be readily f-s onto the table, and a blade guide located between the support bar and the table, to which the unit is fixed for guidant of a cutting knife.
Preferably the unit has five support ERrs fir accommodating up to five rolls of wall paper.
Conveniently, the franc is detachable mountable ente a ente paper pasting table by means of brackets fixed to the frame, including brackets having bracket slideably grip the top and bottom edges of said table The invention will be described by we -+ e.- reference to the accompanying drawings in which:

With reference to Figs 1 to 8, there is illustrated a paper pasting table 10 hinged at the middle and 1 a all paper supply unit 11 attached to one end thereof this particular embodiment the supply unit 11 is a readily assemblable kit of parts, but could be supplied areao assembled.
The supply unit 11 comprises a frame having a pair of sides 12, 13, linked together at one end by a cross-member 14, and at the other end by a combIne:: cross-member an:: blade guide 15. The cross-member 14 is a wlre member having end portions 17 bent at right angles and which engage in respective holes 18 at one end of the respective sides 12 and 13. The combined cross-member and blade guide 15, comprise upper and lower members 21 and 22 pivotted together at one end by a hinge 23 (see Fig 7). The hinge is preferably a flexible hinge allowing the adjacent end of the upper member 21 to engage a V shaped slot in the lower member 22 to hold the upper member open without further support. The upper and lower members 21 and 22 each comprise a pair of bars 24 and 25 with a slit 26 therebetween. The bars 24 and 25 may be joined together at the ends of the slits (as shown in Fig 3). The lower member 22 has brackets 27 attached thereto that co-operate with apertures 28 in the sides 12 and 13 to fix the cross-member/blade guide 15 to the sides
The wall paper rolls are supported on support bars o tat each pass through the hollow length of a roll on which the paper is rolled. The support bars 29 t hate on end port 30 formed at right angles to the general longitudinal axis of the bar. The side members 12 and 13 eaoh have a series of open ended slots 31 which are angled at about 20-3r degrees from the vertical away from the blade guide. The angle of the slots helps prevent the support bars dislocating when the paper is pulled from the roll.
The slots 31 are best seen in F15 8, and are aligned in pairs between the sides so that each support bar locates in a pair of aligned slots 31. In the preferred embodIment there are five pairs of slots 31 to support five rolls.
This is because five rolls is the optimum for pasting in that the paper stretches sufficiantly before use. The slots 31 in both sides 12 and 13 have cpen upper ends and lower closed base ends and, or at least in one side, have holes 32 in the base thereof. The end portion 30 of a respective support bar 29 locates in a hole 32 and the other end of the support bar rests in an open slot
The sides 12 and 13 have extensions 35 towards the centre of the table which have a pair of oppcsed mounting slots 33 and 34 therein for engagement with pegs on the side cf the paste table to mount the unit 11 onto the table 10.
The unit 11 may be supplied with a measuring tape 36 to fit along one edge of the table 10.
In use, upto 5 wall paper rolls are mounted on the support bars 29 and the free ends of each roll are pulled through the blade guide 15 between the upper and lower members 21 and 22. The hinged member 21 may be swung up from lower member 22 to facilitate the feeding of the paper. The five lengths of wall paper are then simultaneously pulled onto the table to the desired length and cut by application of a blade through the slit 26 in the blaze guise.
This results in a number of lengths of wall paper all cut
cleanly to exact lengths at one time. The paper is neatl
stored in rolls on the unit, and because the paper is held
horizontally on the unit there is no problem with curling
paper during cutting.
If pattern matching is required, the patterns from each
roll can be matched at the sides of the paper before
cutting.
The cut paper is then pasted and since there are preferably five lengths of paper to paste, by the time the last length
is pasted the first length will have stretched after
application of the paste sufficiently for immediate use.
Now with reference te Fig 9 to 13, the wall paper supply unit 111 shown therein is substantially similar to that
shown if Figs 1-8. The unit is not a readily asser.bleae kit of parts but is supplied as a whole construction.
Where components are identical with components in Fig 1
the same refernece numbers will be used. The supply ur.it 111 has a rectangular frame comprising two sides 12 and
joined at one end by a cross-member 114 and at the other
end by a second cross-member 115 connected to the lower edges of the sides 12 and 13.
As previously described support bars 29 are locate in slots 31 in the sides 12 and 13. The blade guide 11e is aligned with the corss-member 115 and comprises a pair cf bars each fixed at each end to a respective side with a slit 26 therebetween to accomodate a knife blade,
The supply unit 111 is mounted to the table 10 by a pair of brackets 117 located on extensions 39 of the sides away from the cross-member 114.
The brackets 117 are basically 'UTX shaped brackets wIth the arms arranged horizontally to slide over the edges of the table 10 so that the upper and lower arms cf the bracket slideably grip the edges of the table. A stop 118 is provided on the sides 12 and 13 to limit the movemen cf the unit 111 onto the table 10, and a pivoting lock 119 is provided on the cross-member 115 to lock the unit in position on the table after mounting thereto.
