Description
DESCRIPTION "IMPROVED WASTE DISPOSAL SYSTEC
This invention concerns an improved waste disposal system. More particularly it relates to a system for receiving urban waste in household situations, compacting it, grinding it into small pieces and discharging it through a conveying arrangement to gathering depots.
The removal of urban waste is effected in many cases at the present, by gathering it into small disposable sacks, which, as soon as they are full, are put into road-collected containers to be picked up and sent to dumps or incinerators.
In houses and dwelling places, therefor, the waste must be packed into these relatively small sacks, as it is produced.
There are some arrangements that direct the waste directly into stores placed beneath buildings through individual inlets communicating with pipes or chutes; but these systems needs large pipes or chutes and large stores due to the substantial volume of this waste.
The present invention seeks to provide a system that can receive waste, precisely when it is produced, and, then direct it into a press and a grinding machine, that is, into an apparatus which solidifies or compacts r?,,r21 405 C- 4 1 -2the waste and grinds it into small pieces and sends it, subsequently, to pipes or chutes that lead it into a deposit or a gathering container by allowing it to fall inside.
According to the present invention then, a waste disposal system for receiving household waste from various points of a building comprises a plurality of hoppers each located at a separate collectionve point in the building and each discharging into assocaited solidifying and grinding press means at the location which discharge into a common network of pipes which leads from each location to a general gathering container or skip for the whole building.
The invention will now be further described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:- Fig. 1 shows the system in a schematic perspective view, as waste is being initially received at one collection point; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing waste being fed into a compacting press; and Fig. 3 shows an overall view of the system installed in a building and serving several household installations in a building discharging into a container below the same building.
In the drawings the system is shown to consist of a domestic hopper for discharging waste into a drum 2 provided with opposing, placed recesses 3 and 4 to seal each charge of rubbish and pass it onwardly in the system for further disposal.
Drum 2 is rotatable about its axis 5; just above a press formed by a compactor and a disintegrator 6 which, by means of shutters 7, can discharge compacted and ground waste into hopper 8 placed therebelow and connected to a screw conveyor 9 communicating with the discharge end of a pipe system 10 which leads to a container 11 located in the basement of the building.
From the description and the drawings it is clear that, having received the waste from hopper 1 into the drum 2 as the waste is produced, the latter is discharged directly into the press and the grinding machine 6 by simple rotation of the drum 2.
The press must be capable of compacting the waste and grinding it into small pieces, which, by opening shutter 7 will drop into the screw conveyor 9 which will discharge it into the pipe system 10 connected, by appropriate valves and gates, with the collecting container or skip 11 at the end of the system.
In this way, the necessity to gather a plurality of small disposable sacks is eliminated, and the transportation means for the central dump will collect, -4from container 11, a solidified material and thus, everything else being equal, bulk waste which is much smaller than the one which is necessarily conveyed to a dump at the present.
Due to the grinding operation,'the pipe system can be of very small dimensions, and hence the installation charges much reduced.
To complete the system, all that it is required is a breather pipe 12 which leads from the, upper part of the container or skip 11 to atmosphere.
In the accompanying drawings, the solidifying press is only schematically shown because it can be one of many different types. It can be even coupled with a grinding machine.

Claims (7)
1. A waste disposable system for receiving household waste from various points of a building into associated solidifying and grinding press means at the location which discharge comprising a plurality of hoppers each located at a separate collection point in the building and each discharging into assocaited solidifying and grinding press means at the location which discharge into a common network of pipes which leads from each location to a general gathering container or skip for the whole building.
2. A waste disposal system as claimed in claim 1 wherein the container or skip is located in a lowermost part of the building and the waste received at each location is delivered by gravity to the solidifying and grinding press means and from therethrough to the pipenetwork system to the container or skip also by gravity
3. A waste disposal system as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein each hopper comprises a rotatable drum which acts as a waste gatherer to direct the waste at each location into the press means.
4. A waste disposal system as claimed in claim 1 2 or 3 wherein the solidifying and grinding means comprises a compactor for reducing the volume of the waste and a disintegrator for grinding it into small 9 pieces.
5. A waste disposal system as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein a screw conveyor accepts the compacted and ground waste from the s. olidifying and grinding press means and conveys it to the common network of pipes.
6. A waste disposal system as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5 wherein a breather pipe extends from the top of the container or skip through the building to discharge into the atmosphere above the highest collection point.
7. A waste disposal system for receiving household waste substantially as herein described.with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
