Abstract

The variable speed motor is computer controlled by sensors for pressure in the air manifold and temperature and emission in the exhaust to give the optimum fuel/air mixture in the engine combustion chamber.

Description

ELECTRONIC TURBO HARGSR This invention relates to a computor or electronically controlled turbcharger for engines using compressable fuel iee. petrol or diesel or gas fuels In the past turbo-chargers or super-chargers have been controlled by engine speed or through a waste-gate. Computors are being built to control fuel injection and exhaust emission and could be applied to this turbo-charger to ensure optimum power and clean emission0 Ia this turbo-charger the essential principle remains but power is supplied by a variable speed electric motor0 Thus the turbo speed and consequently air pressure to the engine can be controlled independantly of engine speed0 Control is acheived by pressure sensors in the air manifold and temperature and gas sensors in the exhaust systems The sensors can be connected directly to a speed control unit or through a computor for ultimate control0 Power supply can be any electrical source depending on the application, vehicles 12 or 24 volt, generators 110 or 240 volt as required0 An important advantage is that the unit can be constructed of lightweight materiais and installed in any convenient position required i.e. inoor- porated with the air cleaner which usually takes up useful spaces The output the unit and the horsepower of the motor will vary with the size of the engine to which the turbo unit is to be appliede ELECTRONIC TURBO-CHARGER The turbo-charger is driven by an electric motor from any electrical source available to its application.
The variable speed motor is electronically controlled by sensor for pressure in the air manifold and temperature and emission in the exhaust to give the optimum fuel/air mixture in the engine combustion chamber0 Being electrically driven and controlled the unit can be fitted in any convenient position and constructed of light weight materials.
