Abstract
An intruder alarm system 20, eg for motor vehicles, comprising trigger means 21 eg a motion sensor, connected via switching means 23 in the form of a switch assembly to first alarm signaling means 24 e.g. the vehicle horn 24A and headlights 24B. Switching means 23 further provides a switchable connection between the trigger means 21 and a radio transmitter 26 being part of half a second alarm signaling means 25. The second alarm signaling means 25 also comprises a radio receiver 27 which, in use, receives a signal from the radio transmitter 26 and activates a remote alarm, local to the radio receiver 27. <IMAGE>
Description
INTRUDER ALARM SYSTEM
The present invention relates to an intruder alarm system for protecting property.
Known alarm systems, in motor vehicles, generally operate by triggering the vehicle horn and headlights.
This system is practical where the vehicle owner is in close proximity to the vehicle. A problem however, is where the vehicle owner is some distance from the vehicle and is unable to hear the horn or see the headlights. This problem also exists where, for example, the security guard of a building is required to move around the building and cannot remain in any particular area of the building.
It is an object of the present invention to obviate or substantially mitigate the aforementioned problem by providing an intruder alarm system that can be detected at a distance from the intrusion.
According to the present invention there is provided an intruder alarm system for protecting property, said system comprising trigger means associated with said property and sensitive to an intruder, first alarm signalling means switchably connected to said trigger means and located locally with respect to said property, second alarm signalling means part of which is remotely located with respect to said property, comprising a radio receiver, and a radio transmitter for issuing a radio signal to said radio receiver to cause activation of a remote alarm, said radio transmitter being switchably connected to said trigger means and located locally with respect to said property.
Locally located may be inside or outside the property.
Preferably a parallel or alternatively a series switch assembly provides said switchable connections
Trigger means may be a motionsensor, a breakable conducting link disposed across a window or alternatively a body heat sensor.
Said property is preferably a motor vehicle but may alternatively be a building such as a home or office.
First alarm signalling means may be light, sound or a combination. of light and sound.
Second alarm signalling means may include a device for generating an audible high pitched tone or flashing light. Said second alarm signalling means may be located on the person of the property or alternatively at a police station.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described, by way of example and with reference to the following drawings in which:
Fig. 1 shows a schematic diagram of the present invention;
Fig. 2 shows a first embodiment of the present invention being an intruder alarm system for use with a motor vehicle;
Fig. 3 shows a second embodiment of the present invention being an intruder alarm system for use within buildings.
With reference to Fig. 1, the present invention 10 comprises trigger means 11 associated with said property and being sensitive to an intruder. The trigger means 11 is switchably connected to first alarm signalling means 12 located locally with respect to the property. Second alarm signalling means 13 comprises a radio receiver 15 located remotely with respect to the property and a radio transmitter 14 for issuing a radio signal to said radio receiver 15 to cause activation of a remote alarm, said radio transmitter 14 being switchably connected to said trigger means 11 and located locally with respect to said property. In use an intruder activates said trigger means 11 which passes a signal to said locally located first alarm signalling means 12 which is then activated.
A signal is passed from the trigger means 11 to second alarm signalling means 13. The radio transmitter 14 is local to the property and being part of said alarm signalling means 13 transmits a signal to the radio receiver 15, the signal activating a remote alarm.
With regards to Fig. 2 an embodiment of the present invention being an intruder alarm system for motor vehicles is shown. An intruder alarm system 20 comprises trigger means 21, conveniently being a .
motion sensor,which is connected via switching means 2,3, being a switch assembly,to first alarm signalling means 24 being the vehicle horn 24A and headlights 24B.
Additionally the switching means 23 provides a switchable connection between the motion sensor 21 and a radio transmitter 26 being part of a second alarm signalling means 25. Second alarm signalling means 25 also comprises a radio receiver 27 which,in use, receives a signal from the radio transmitter 26 and activates a remote alarm, conveniently being a high pitched tone, being local to the radio receiver 27.
Fig. 3 shows a further embodiment of the present invention whereby an intruder alarm system 30 is used to detect a broken window 31. The trigger means 32 comprises a number of breakable conductors disposed across the window 31 which are broken when the window 31 is smashed. When the conductors are broken a signal is sent by the trigger means 32 to first alarm means 34, conveniently being a Klaxon. The signal is received by the radio receiver 36 as in the embodiment in Fig. 2 which activates a high pitched tone being part of the remote alarm. The person carrying the receiver, possibly a caretaker or security guard, will be alerted to the intrusion.
A number of modifications to the system can be made. Instead of the alarm signal receiver having a high pitched tone, a combination of light and sound may be used. The receiver may be located at a police station. Additionally the trigger means may be pressure pads detecting any substantial weight or a body heat detecting device.
It will be appreciated that the range over which the alarm system can operate will be dependent on localised conditions such as weather or the proximity of tall buildings.
